Pause To Remember
This Sunday we pause to remember; remember those who have gone before us into that “Great cloud of witnesses.” We remember that each of us who knew them contains a part of them in our memories, our stories, our activities and our lives. They are very literally a part of us.
We have a tradition in this church to read the names of those to be remembered, to sound a single chime, ask that those who knew them stand, to light a candle in their honor, followed by a brief moment of silence. There will be one additional candle that will be lit as we say the names of those not listed. We’ll then offer a prayer for all of those we’ve lost.
It’s a powerful service; a meaningful service, particularly as we also celebrate communion. Please come prepared for a service that is more subdued, quieter and reflective. We need these times in our lives and this Sunday will most certainly be one of those.
