Preparing for Christmas
This year, as we prepare for Christmas, we will focus on preparing ourselves and our church for the coming of the Christ child among us one more time. We read the ancient words from Isaiah, quoted by the gospel writers:
A voice cries out:
“In the wilderness prepare the way of the Lord,
make straight in the desert a highway for our God.
4 Every valley shall be lifted up,
and every mountain and hill be made low;
the uneven ground shall become level,
and the rough places a plain.
5 Then the glory of the Lord shall be revealed,
and all people shall see it together,
for the mouth of the Lord has spoken.” (Isaiah 40:3-5)
This first week of December, we meet our first character crying out in the wilderness. His name is John the Baptist and in many ways, he prepared the way for Jesus’ ministry in ancient Israel. On Sunday, we’ll hear more about how John may serve as an example for us as we make preparations for the ministry of the body of Christ in our time.
