This Sunday we turn to those who have gone before us into that great cloud of witnesses. We spend time looking back on those lives who have influenced ours. We look at today and on ahead as we think and pray about those with whom we too will have an influence. We’ve learned from those who have gone before us where some of the learning was good and positive and helpful; while some were not so good, or positive or helpful.
But the words of Paul in Romans says it best; “All things can work together for good for those who are called according to God’s purpose…” And we see in the scripture for this Sunday of the passing of the flame or torch from one generation to the next. Today, more than any other in recent history, needs the flame of love, the passion of forgiveness and the lessons of grace continue to be passed on to those who are coming after us. The question is, will we and if so how? So we’ll spend some of our time this Sunday exploring all of that. To prepare please read II Timothy 1:3-8.
