Frequently when the worship leaders gather just before worship begins at Aldersgate, we pray to be surprised by the Holy Spirit in worship that morning. It might seem like an odd thing for a pastor to pray for. It might seem counter-intuitive that once we’ve established an order of worship and a plan for the day, that we would ask for it to be interrupted by a surprise. Yet, we’ve found that when we are open to the surprises that the Holy Spirit presents us, we are open to the movement of God through worship.
This week, we’ll look at the patterns of God’s surprises in our world. We’ll explore how the holy interruption is sometimes just what we need so that we can take a new look around and see God at work in our lives. Read Chapter 3 of Brian McLaren’s book “We Make the Road by Walking” and John 1: 1-17 to prepare.
