This Sunday is our first one-service Sunday of the summer. The service itself is both hopeful and a bit painful. It is hopeful because we have a new member or two joining the church. It is a bit painful because we have two departures both of which involve saying goodbye. One of the departures is the Hampson family. The other is Pastor Laura. The Hampsons are moving back to Oregon. Pastor Laura is heading for her new clergy appointment at Kennydale and Renton 1st UMC. Goodbyes are hard enough, but this family and this pastor have been a remarkable addition to our experiences at Aldersgate. They have added to our lives, to our outlooks, and to the ministries we’ve offered as a church. They’ve dedicated themselves to making this a better place, and have done so consistently, with love, with grace, and with perseverance. Now they move to the next chapters in their lives and we wish them all the best. There will be a reception for them following worship.
At the same time, Aldersgate continues in ministry in South Bellevue and the surrounding areas. As such, we welcome some new members into the life of this church. They too will be a part of the reception after worship. So, it is with hope and wonderment that on this transition Sunday we experience both a deepened hello and deeply felt goodbyes. It is a part of the circle of life these hellos and goodbyes. It has been throughout time. To prepare for Sunday please read Matthew 6:25-33.
