Andrew’s Glen is located on Factoria Boulevard, across from Newport High School. Andrew’s Glen is a part of Imagine Housing and provides 20 apartment homes for formerly homeless veterans at or below 30% of area median income and 20 apartment homes for other residents earning between 40% and 60% of area median income.
Aldersgate has been active with Andrew’s Glen since it was built in 2011. Aldersgate donated bicycle racks for the new complex. We also provided move-in kits for each apartment of all the necessary items to live independently such as sheets and basic kitchen supplies. Finally, we established an ongoing monthly community dinner.
Aldersgate hosts a dinner the 2nd Wednesday of the month at Andrew’s Glen. At the beginning of each month, a request is made for donations of food from the Aldersgate Community for the dinner. Aldersgate provides chicken and potato salad through the Outreach/Missions budget. The rest of the meal is made up by the donations from the members of the church. The Andrew’s Glen residents who come to dinner range in age from infants to senior adults and include veterans, single women with children, working adults, and students who also hold down part-time jobs. Andrew’s Glen is a clean, safe place to live while they work toward bettering their lives and eventually settling in permanent, affordable housing. During the past 14 months 61 Aldersgate families have contributed gifts of food to this Outreach/Mission program.
In addition to the meal, five games of BINGO are played after the meal. This is a very popular activity and has players of all ages.
How you can help: Sign up to donate food, deliver food and play BINGO.
Donate small items for all ages for BINGO prizes. For more information talk with Karen Yellman and Sabrina MacIntyre, who volunteer to make these dinners a reality!
