Congregations for the Homeless was established in 1993. Their mission statement explicitly states the goal, “Congregations for the Homeless (CFH) works to end homelessness on the Eastside. As the only full-service shelter resource for single, adult men experiencing homelessness, CFH helps men to successfully make the transition from homelessness to permanent housing.” CFH, has helped 175 men transition into permanent housing.
Congregations for the Homeless year round shelter utilizes twelve different churches on the Eastside. Each of these twelve churches are supported by other faith communities during the month the men stay at their building. The year round shelter provides a warm, safe environment with comprehensive case management services.
Aldersgate is a supporting church while the men are housed at nearby Christ the King Lutheran Church. We provide a week of meals. Teams of Aldersgate members prepare, deliver, and serve dinners at Christ the King. In addition, Aldersgate provide food for sack lunches.
In 2013 Congregations for the Homeless opened a Day Center at First Congregational Church in downtown Bellevue. The Day Center provides needed services such as laundry and shower facilities. It also allows for the building of relationships with those that find themselves chronically homeless, helping them reconnect into society. The comprehensive approach of CFH provides a support network which in turn has been very successful at transitioning men out of homelessness.
Plan now to help this June!
