This Sunday – A Note from Guest Preacher, Vince Fratello
Given the cancellation of Sunday morning gatherings for worship, as an alternative we’ll be going to a Facebook Live service at 10am each Sunday morning.
A while back Brad gave us a sermon on science. To his credit he got most of it right, but gravity stymied him as it has so many others. Thorne, Misner and Wheeler in their massive tome Gravitation took 1,280 pages to explain it so I probably won’t make much headway in fifteen minutes and no math. But I would like to draw an analogy to our gravitational attraction to God. In reading the Psalms, especially the Psalms of David, we see that God becomes the center of the Universe and all things move around him, especially each of us. When we acknowledge that relationship, we see how God bends the arcs of our lives and helps us to bend the arcs of other’s lives. In preparation for this week’s service, please read Psalm 18. I will only be reading selected verses 1-2,6,16,19,28,30-32,35-36 and 46 in service, but the whole thing has a certain gravitas of its own. Please send me your prayer concerns and joys to email@example.com.
During the school year we have two worship services. During the summer, we worship together by joining our styles at one service at 10am. Our 9:00am Contemporary service is less traditional, very relaxed, coffee-friendly, family friendly, and with a great band. The music is interwoven throughout the message. There is the feeling that we are worshiping in the family room with that kind of repartee and that kind of relaxed feeling. Pastor Brad is open to comments throughout the message. He often asks for a response. There is a deep, wonderful, joyous relationship between Brad, the congregation and the Praise Band. It is truly a “come as you are” time, and without exception, everyone is welcome – and we really mean everyone.
Our 10 o’clock Sunday School hour has classes for preschool age kids – adults. Of course, there are coffee and refreshments offered each Sunday as well to enjoy while chatting.
The 11:00 Traditional service offers a regular order of service that reflects the Unitied Methodist history. There is an excellent robed choir, organ and piano, hymns with a few other kinds of songs mixed in; and a Call to Worship. That said, it is also somewhat relaxed in a kind of more traditional Northwest style. It’s very comfortable and like first service, anyone and everyone is welcome and we mean everyone!
After children’s time, children will be released to Kid’s Club. Kid’s club is different each week, but is always fun. Kids’ Club is simply a time where the kids get together to be in fellowship. Sometimes we play games, do an art project and get to know the adults of church when they share a part of their story and passion.
The kids will transition directly to their Sunday School Class based on grade level from Kids Club for the 10am hour.
If your child would prefer to stay in the worship services, there are activity clipboards available as well as a family room where there is room to move and toys and activities that is sound proof.
Our Nursery is staffed with warm and nurturing youth and is available for babies through age 3 and is open the entire morning.
